“Zakah purifies the wealth
and the soul of the believer.”

Ibn Taymiyyah — Majmu’ al-Fatawa

Purify your wealth. Fulfill your obligation.

Based on Hanafi Jurisprudence

Zakah Calculator

What is Nisab?

Nisab is the minimum amount of wealth you must own before Zakah becomes obligatory. If your total zakatable assets (minus eligible debts) are below this threshold, you owe no Zakah.

How is it calculated?

  • Gold standard: 87.48g of gold × current gold price
  • Silver standard: 612.36g of silver × current silver price

This calculator uses the silver standard for eligibility, as it sets a lower threshold — meaning more people fulfill their obligation to pay Zakah. Both nisab values are shown on the results page for reference.

Example: How the ruling applies
Description Amount Calculation Zakat Due
Total cash $10,000.00 100% × 2.5% $250.00
Total Zakat in this example: $250.00

This is an example to show how the ruling applies. Your actual zakat will be calculated based on the values you enter.

Enter the weight of gold you own by karat. Leave blank any you don't have.

Silver 500g $525.00 100% × 2.5% $13.13
Total Zakat in this example: $119.38

Now let's check your liabilities

Some debts are eligible to be deducted from your zakatable wealth, reducing the amount on which zakah is due. We'll walk through each liability type one at a time.

Liability of

Explain how deductions work for Immediate Debts
  • All immediate debts are fully deductible from your zakatable wealth
  • This includes: bills due now, credit card balances, overdue payments, and any debt payable on demand
  • Current month's rent is deductible — but only the current month, not future months (Nurturing Mountains, p. 24)
  • Car lease payments are treated as rent, not debt (you don't own the vehicle). Only the current month's payment is deductible at most (AskImam Hanafi ruling)
Example: How deductions affect your zakat
Zakatable wealth $100,000.00
Less: Immediate debts -$2,000.00
Net zakatable wealth $98,000.00
Zakat due (2.5%) $2,450.00

This is an example to show how deductions work. Your actual zakat will be calculated based on the values you enter.

Annual deduction:
Explain how deductions work for Monthly Loan Payments
  • Loan payments (mortgage, car loan, student loan): The next 12 months of payments are deductible — enter your monthly amount and the calculator multiplies by 12 automatically
  • Car loans (financing a purchase you will own) belong here
  • Car leases (renting a vehicle you return) do NOT belong here — a lease is treated as rent, not debt. Enter the current month's payment under Immediate Debts instead
  • Rent (apartment, house) does NOT belong here — only the current month's rent is deductible, entered under Immediate Debts
Example: How deductions affect your zakat
Zakatable wealth $100,000.00
Less: Loan payments ($1,500/mo × 12) -$18,000.00
Net zakatable wealth $82,000.00
Zakat due (2.5%) $2,050.00

This is an example to show how deductions work. Your actual zakat will be calculated based on the values you enter.
